Three skin care strategies to boost that summer glow

How to have smooth bright skin, even when it's hot and muggy

Summertime, when the living is easy and skin can have a healthy, dewy glow. Unless you are susceptible to an entirely new set of skin care challenges that arise at this time of year.

It is common to see an increase in sun spots from excess melanin production, premature aging from broken down collagen, and bumps or inflammation from excess oil production.

The following three skin care strategies can diminish these imbalances.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a gentle exfoliating of the top layer of skin. Crystals clean the skin and a light suction removes dead skin cells. Without this layer, the skin has a more healthy glow and absorbs products more effectively.

Increase collagen production

Professional facial treatments that include alpha hydroxy acid or enzyme-based ingredients trigger collagen production and promote new cell growth.  The word “peel” is a misnomer; these products reveal a resilient glow by cleaning and stimulating without damaging.

Topical Vitamin C

Apply a topical Vitamin C to protect your skin from free radicals (they destroy collagen and speed up our ageing process), to give your skin a daily dose of antioxidants and to prevent new pigment from forming.

Abnormal Spots: When in doubt, check them out

Beyond the cosmetic aspects of skin care, abnormal dark spots could indicate a health concern. If any spots appear suddenly, grow quickly, are asymmetrical or have different colours, have it assessed by a physician.
